Happy New Year! Welcome to another installment of my monthly First Tuesday Recipes series. This month we’re going international. I’ve got an Eastern European comfort food, a French-inspired entrée, and a German side dish.

Chicken Babka
For the dough:
- 1 1/4 c. flour
- 1/4 t. salt
- 1 t. baking powder
- 1/2 c. solid Crisco (do NOT use butter)
- 1 egg, beaten
- 3 T. milk
For the filling:
- 2 c. cooked chicken breast, chopped
- 1/2 c. chopped celery
- 1 T. chopped parsley
- 1/2 t. salt
- 1 can cream of chicken soup, undiluted and divided (do not substitute another cream soup)…

Is it cooking oil, I think I recall from USA days??? Cup is American measurement – a standard size cup I think Gilli.

Yay, you see we don’t use cups. I am old fashioned and use pints and ounces, others use ml etc.

I use both, Jane. 1 pint is 2 cups (500 ml). 1 ouch is 30 grams. I am always having to convert because my cookery books are all different.

Actually, I am a guesser. I judge amounts and do not measure. Been cooking since I was 8. Got my eye in. Cannot be bothered to follow instructions. Naughty I know.

Just being irritable and pedantic! I know a cup is an American measurement, but am always annoyed by its imprecision.
Cups are NOT a standard size in my experience. I want to know how many mils to use. In UK measures I know how to translate tsp, and tbs.
